The work of a mortuary science student is often grim. Tasks include anything from funeral planning to reconstructive surgery or embalming. Though the work directly involves the dead, mortuary science is done for the living, said Cydney Griffith, associate professor for mortuary science and funeral service.

A robbery occurred on campus late Tuesday at about 9:30 p.m.

The LSU Police Department responded to a robbery near Peabody Hall and the Indian Mounds.

The person of interest fled the scene on foot, according to the broadcast e-mail from the Office of Public Affairs.

Football programs around the country are installing new high definition-scoreboards in their stadiums - Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State just to name a few.

LSU may soon join that list.

The residents of a 500-side Cougar Village apartment continue to face criminal problems, following a string of crimes including burglary, theft and multiple cases of criminal damage to property.

SIUE Police Lt. Kevin Schmoll said because of the extensive list of problems at the apartment, police recommended the residents move into different apartments.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ A pregnant illegal immigrant found herself shackled to a hospital bed while enduring labor after being arrested for driving without a license, according to police and her attorney.

Juana Villegas of Nashville was arrested and taken to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office on July 3 after a Berry Hill police officer pulled her over for careless driving and found she had no driver's license.

University student dies in car crash

Ellen Hinson, 19-year-old mechanical engineering junior, died early Sunday morning after a single-vehicle accident.

Hinson was driving a Ford Ranger west on Louisiana Highway 42 when the road curved. She drove into a ditch, hit a utility pole and was partially thrown out of the vehicle, according to State Trooper Johnnie Brown.

The fall semester has not started, but some administrators are already concerned about its numbers. There are 12,463 undergraduate students registered for next semester, according to university records released Monday. That number falls roughly 13 percent short of the university's target 14,254 - the number of undergraduates enrolled last fall.
