The Oxford Police Department is continuing its investigation of the homicide of Ole Miss track star Rodney Lockhart, OPD Chief Mike Martin said Monday.

No arrests in the homicide had been made as of press time Tuesday evening.

Martin told The Daily Mississippian that the department considers Lockhart's murder to be an isolated incident.

"There is not a serial killer on the loose or anything like that," Martin said.

Martin said students and Oxford residents should take normal precautions to ensure their safety.

Lockhart, 20, was found dead at 10:08 a.m. Saturday with a gunshot wound to the head.

An acquaintance of Lockhart arrived at the track student's Taylor Pointe apartment off Anderson Road Saturday morning and found him unresponsive, according to a news release issued by Martin on Saturday afternoon.

Lockhart was a sophomore from Vaiden. Last year he competed in the 400-meter relay at the 2006 World Junior Championships in Beijing, China.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Sanders and Sanders Funeral Home in Winona. They had not been finalized as of Tuesday evening.
